Q: Do I need to install Hard Drive Optimizer on my computer?

No. Hard Drive Optimizer is a portable app, which means that you don’t have to install it. Simply download the .exe file and run it to launch Hard Drive Optimizer. This is especially handy when you want to optimize Intenet connection on a computer you don’t use ofter because you can run Hard Drive Optimizer from a USB thumb drive.

Q: How do I delete large files with Hard Drive Optimizer?

When Hard Drive Optimizer finishes scanning your drive, examine large files on the results screen. Click on a file you want to delete and drag it to the drag & drop zone. Once all the files you want to delete are in the zone, click on the “Delete” button.

Q: Do I have to scan my whole drive or can I scan just one folder?

You can scan separate folders for large files. Just add the folder to the scan on the main screen and click on the “Scan” button next to it.

Q: Is Hard Drive Optimizer safe to use?

Yes, Hard Drive Optimizer is absolutely safe to use because it doesn’t delete Windows system files even if they’re really large.

Q: Hard Drive Optimizer won’t allow me to delete files. What to do?

Please make sure you run Hard Drive Optimizer as administrator. To do that, right-click on the HDO icon and select “Run as Administrator”. If you get a UAC promt, click “Allow” to proceed. Once Hard Drive Optimizer opens, scan your PC for large files as you normally would.

Q: I tried deleting some files from my Photos folder but the files are still there. Why is that?

Photos is a system folder. Just like all other system folders, files in it are protected from accidental deletion. That’s why Hard Drive Optimizer couldn’t delete those files and returned an error.
